John Baglio, Fieldston Middle Engineering Teacher, recently tasked his students with a unique challenge: Using materials found at home — along with a toolkit provided to them at the beginning of the year — design a container that can keep a COVID-19 vaccine safe from physical impact, light, and changes to temperature while in transit. In place of the vaccine, students were each given a small computer called a Micro:bit that is capable of sensing these types of elemental changes.
The students designed their devices and then tested them using obstacle courses they built at home. Following the test, students filmed videos advertising their unique creations.
Below, six Fieldston Middle students share their innovative vaccine protection devices.
