When the Class of 2022 arrived on campus on a sunny Friday in early November, they were surprised to see a line of coach buses waiting for them. Instead of attending classes that day, the students traveled to Pennings Farm in upstate New York to pick apples, take a hay ride, wander through a corn maze, and enjoy a fun, fall day together.
Pulling off the surprise was no easy feat. Vinni Drybala, Dean of the Class of 2022, worked with Interim Principal Tony Marro, Assistant Principals Kenny Graves and Rashad Randolph, Fieldston Upper faculty, the College Counseling Office, and the Athletics Department to plan a day where every senior could be absent from campus.
The trip was a fun-filled getaway to end a stressful week for seniors — early admissions applications for colleges were turned in the Monday before. “They have bonded over the stress of college and now they can bond over something fun,” says Drybala.
