This November, on an unseasonably warm day, Ethical Culture students excitedly gathered in Central Park to participate in a beloved annual event, ECS-a-Thon. Families arrived with beautifully-decorated signs, ready to cheer on our young runners.
For several weeks, 1st–5th Grade students trained for ECS-a-Thon during P.E., so when the day finally arrived, they were ready to run!
All smiles, students lined up in groups in different start locations around the baseball/softball fields in Central Park. At the sound of the starting whistle, they were off!
Many community members, including parents/guardians, grandparents, siblings, and faculty and staff, cheered on the students enthusiastically! Claps, cheers, and chants of “Great job” and “You’ve got this!” rang throughout the course.
The race, which encourages achievement rather than competition, was a resounding success! Shortly after finishing her race, one student excitedly proclaimed, “I can’t wait to do this again next year!”
