At ECFS, students, faculty, staff, and families are eager to give back to their communities — near and far — in meaningful and impactful ways.
Each year, during the holiday season, the School finds myriad ways of spreading joy and comfort to those who need it most.
For their annual Thanksgiving drive in support of New York Common Pantry, the Ethical Culture P+T collected donations of stuffing mix, gravy, cornbread mix, cranberry sauce, and other food for the holiday. In total, families donated enough items to fill 36 large bags.
For the annual Nelson Avenue Family Residence coat drive, Fieldston Lower 2nd Grade sprang into action, filling the School with colorful posters promoting the event.
Not only was this Fieldston Lower's most successful coat drive to date, it was also an example of the School's progressive and ethical learning model. Student voice, authentic learning, community service, and empathy are at the heart of the Fieldston Lower program.
The holiday season isn't the only time when ECFS gives back. Last year, the Fieldston Upper varsity field hockey team donated uniforms, sticks, and balls to the Tunza Sports Academy, an organization that empowers young people through sports.
Over the summer, the supplies were sent to Nairobi, Kenya, where students had recently learned their school would not reopen in the fall due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The donation gave these students the opportunity to enjoy a fun, physically distanced activity during a challenging time.
